Patel Impressed By Cincinnati Camp

While the Bearcats hosted a lot of the higher ranked players they are recruiting this past week at the Butch Jones football camp, they also hosted some of the under the radar prospects as well. One of which is a local product hoping to earn a scholarship.

Purcell Marian offensive/defensive lineman Tyrone Patel has been down to Clifton to visit the Cincinnati campus a couple of times during spring practices and was invited to the spring game as well.

However, this past week Patel gave the UC coaching staff an up close look at what he could do at their camp.

"I went their camp on Monday and worked with the offensive line, and then I went back on Wednesday to work with the defensive line because I play both ways," Patel said.

"Overall, it was a great experience for me … I really like the intensity that the (UC) staff has. Kerry Coombs who is my recruiter, he brings great intensity and I felt fired up going into the practices. I don't know what it is about him or the whole staff but they have an intensity level that is greater than any other school that I've been too so far."

Patel does not hold any scholarship offers at the moment, but is hoping that will change as he has had a busy summer thus far visiting camps at Indiana, Kentucky, and Bowling Green and plans on camping at Akron, Ohio Dominican, Ohio State, Louisville and may go to Penn State as well.

The 6-foot-3 300 pound lineman has been getting interest from Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Bowling Green, Akron, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, North Carolina State, Kent State, and Toledo.

While the versatile lineman does not hold an offer, he does have a favorite.

"My top three so far would be UC, Bowling Green and Indiana," Patel said. He also said that Kentucky is right there as well. "My dad went to UC and a lot of my friends go to UC. If UC were to offer me I would probably go with UC."

Patel says he has had steady contact with the Cincinnati coaching staff and should hear from them in the fall. While Patel plays on both sides of the line he says that UC is looking at his as a center/guard but could also use him on the defensive line.

"Coach Coombs said he liked how I played on the offensive line and that they would give me a call in the fall. I'm looking forward to seeing how that turns out, but I'm definitely excited about it," Patel said.
