"I'm pretty excited about getting things started. Camp has been good and the team has worked hard getting ready for the start of the season. We don't have two-a-days, but get an early start at about 7 in the morning and then get finished between 11 and 12."
While Pike is excited about Friday night's game, the thing most on his mind right now is the start of the school year. Is Zeke Pike ready to get back to a normal routine.
"We start school tomorrow and I'm ready to get back and get into the flow of things. This summer has been a blessing, but the more offers I picked up the more crazy it became. The past few weeks have been peaceful with us being in practice."
While everyone will be watching how Zeke does at quarterback, he knows the night is not going to be an easy one, as he'll pull double duty also starting as an outside linebacker on defense.
"Right now it looks like I'll be playing outside linebacker in this game. But I could also move up to defensive end depending upon the team we play."
While Zeke has placed recruiting on the back burner, he knows people will be watching his development as the year progresses. Cincinnati is sure to be a team taking a major interest in his development.
"I'm really excited to play in Nippert as it is a great stadium. I saw Patrick Coyne the other night and we talked. He is really full of energy and a great guy to be around."
While a lot of attention will be given to Pike, he stresses football is a team game and he is blessed to have solid teammates helping him reach his and the teams goals.
As for the schools that have offered Zeke is sure of a few things.
"I want the chance to play quarterback at the next level. If I go to a school and I'm not good enough, I will have no problem making a switch to another position. But I do want a realistic chance in the beginning to be a quarterback. When the time comes, I'll trust God in what happens."
BearcatInsider.com will be on hand Friday night with a full report on the performance of Zeke Pike.
