Practice Day 10: Under The Lights

The Bearcats canceled their morning practice on Thursday meaning they practiced under lights at Higher Ground. While the action on the field wasn't all that captivating, there were a couple of developments off the field.

First, freshman wide receiver Dyjuan Lewis was on hand at practice in a t-shirt and shorts taking things in. Head coach Butch Jones said after practice that Lewis has been granted temporary clearance to practice, but must still wait a few more days before getting onto the field.

Also, Cincinnati added another player to its 2010 recruiting class in the form of Antwon Darling from Miami (FL) Central High School. He will play outside linebacker for the Cats and joins the team as a late qualifier.

As for on the field, freshman Adrian Witty took several reps with the first team offense. Jones said this is not just because of the injury situation to Dominique Battle, but that he has really impressed the coaching staff and that he is challenging for a starting cornerback position. Sean Hooey also saw time with the first team offensive line.

In one-on-one drills in the red zone sophomore Aaron Robinson made a great play on a pass intended for Kenbrell Thompkins. Thompkins had the ball in his grasp when Robinson was able to get his left hand in between Thompkins' hands to knock the ball away.

In the team 11-on-11 drills, Darrin Williams showed the explosiveness he showed in the spring game, breaking big running plays up the middle on back-to-back touches.

After the scrimmage yesterday, the first team defense consisted of Reuben Johnson, Brandon Mills, Jordan Stepp, Rob Trigg, Robert Martin, J.K. Schaeffer, Wesley Richardson, Drew Frey, Camerron Cheatham, Derek Wolfe and even had recently added to scholarship Obadiah Cheatham.

The first team offensive line as far as I could tell consisted of Sean Hooey, Evan Davis, Jason Kelce, Alex Hoffman, C.J. Cobb from left to right.
