Clemson a ‘definite' favorite

Only a handful of players in the class of 2013 have picked up offers from Clemson. One, who plays quarterback right up I-85, has the Tigers as one of his favorites, if not the favorite.

QB Riley Ferguson Profile

Butler High School (Matthews, N.C.) sophomore quarterback Riley Ferguson is 76 of 152 for 1,385 yards and nine touchdowns in his first season as the Bulldogs' starter. He's also rushed nine times for 48 yards and a score.

Before a pregame meal earlier this season, Butler head coach Mike Newsome informed Ferguson that an offer from Clemson could be on the way soon. By October, Ferguson got the good news from Newsome.

The Tigers pulled the trigger.

"I love Clemson. That's one of my favorite schools," Ferguson told CUTigers recently.

"Clemson is definitely one of my favorite schools."

He was introduced to Clemson at a young age by family friends, who attended the university.

"They took me to a Clemson game when I was little," Ferguson said. "That's the only one I'd been to. Then, last year—I've always loved Clemson. On video games, I always get them."

Other sets of friends with ties to Clemson have played a part in keeping Ferguson in the fold with things in Tigertown.

"Now, last year, I went with Christian LeMay and his brother Uriah. After that, later on in the year, I went to a basketball game with Anthony Stitt, Demontez Stitt's cousin," Ferguson said.

Along with Clemson, LSU and Michigan have offered.

"There are a whole bunch of schools, but those are the only verbal offers I have, so far," he said. "I'm not committing verbally anywhere. I'm just going to wait for all the offers to come in, and I'm going to chose at the end, when all of my offers come in, but Clemson is definitely one of my favorite schools." Top Stories
