2010 ACC Bowl Projections

CLEMSON - It's mid-November and Clemson is scrambling to secure bowl eligibility for a 12th consecutive season.

Of course, that's not exactly what Dabo Swinney and company had in mind back in August when the Tigers had visions of a repeat trip to the ACC Championship.

Clemson (5-5, 3-4 ACC) heads to Wake Forest (2-8, 1-6 ACC) this Saturday in search of the win that would lock up one of the eight bowl spots guaranteed to ACC teams this year.

Gone from the conference lineup are the Emerald and the Gator. Those were replaced by the Independence and the Sun.

The ACC still has tie-ins to the Orange, Chick-Fil-A, Champs Sports, Meineke Car Care, Music City and Eagle Bank.

And if there are not enough eligible Pac-10 teams, the ACC has a conditional spot in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco.

As it stands right now, six ACC teams are already bowl eligible, with five still in the hunt for the Dec. 4 ACC Championship in Charlotte, N.C.

Three teams remain in contention for the Atlantic Division title:

1. Florida State (7-3, 5-2 ACC)
2. N.C. State (7-3, 4-2)
3. Maryland (7-3, 4-2)

The picture is a little clearer with only two teams left in the race on the Coastal side:

1. Virginia Tech (8-2, 6-0)
2. Miami (7-3, 5-2)

North Carolina (6-4, 3-3), which has been eliminated from the Coastal Division race, is the sixth bowl eligible team in the ACC.

Clemson, Boston College (5-5, 3-4), Georgia Tech (5-5, 3-4) each need one more win to become eligible. Virginia (4-6, 1-5) needs two.

There are two more weeks of games to make sense of the cluster that's left for the final two weeks of the season.
