Napier given permission to interview

Dabo Swinney said prior to practice tonight that he had given permission to Furman University to speak with Clemson offensive coordinator Billy Napier about their head coach position next week after Clemson has finished its regular season.

Also, Clemson running back Andre Ellington did not practice, but did some running on the side Monday night. His status for Saturday's game with South Carolina will be evaluated later in the week.

Napier, who was promoted to offensive coordinator two years ago after a brief stint as a tight ends coach, is a former Furman quarterback.

He has also served as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at S.C. State. has more about Napier's spot on Furman's wish list and much more on the premium message board The Valley:
