Tigers Among Early Leaders for QB

It's a good year for quarterback talent in the state of Ohio this year and Warren Harding's Alex Engram is one reason why. Engram is favoring several schools early in the recruiting process, including the Clemson Tigers. Read more about this outstanding singal caller in this extensive report.

Engram has taken a long road back to Ohio; he originally lived in the Buckeye state, where his dad was a star basketball player for Warren Western Reserve Academy. Engram then lived in Wisconsin for ten years and then Texas for six, and he has now moved back to Ohio and will be playing at Warren Harding for his senior year.

Engram has been compared to last year's Harding quarterbacks as it has been said he has the passing ability of Mike Kokal (signed with Miami OH) and the athleticism of Mike Phillips (signed with Pittsburgh as a DB). What does Alex, who lists his favorite player as Michael Vick, think of his style?

"Other people say it's a little like (Mike) Vick and a little like (Donovan) McNabb," he said. "I don't really compare it to anybody."

The 6-0, 190 pound QB runs a 4.7 40 and said he has recently thrown the ball 70 yards. He wants to play at QB in college, but DB is not out of the question.

"I've never played anything but QB but I'm willing to play DB on the next level," he said.

Right now, Alex's favorites are Texas A&M, Ohio State and Clemson. "I always wanted to go to Ohio State," he said.

What schools are recruiting him the hardest?

"Before I left (Texas), Iowa was all over me," he said. "A&M was on me until the coaching change."

Alex said there were rumors floating around about him being offered, but those weren't true. No offers are on the table for him right now.

Alex will be busy this summer as he is planning to camp at Ohio State, Texas A&M, Texas, and West Virginia. In a college, he's looking for a place where his parents can come see him play, plus he is looking to get an early start.

"I'm going to have to make a decision right after the high school season because I'm going to graduate early," he said.

Alex, who likes playing PlayStation and hanging out with friends in his spare time, transferred in from MacArthur High School in Irving, TX. He said that things are busy down there this time of year.

"Down there, they're going through spring practice right now and will last until May 29th," he said. "And they have a spring game for high school."

Ohio football may be a bit different for Alex, but he'll have a chance to stand out this year as he'll be on one of the state's top teams. Watch out for this player in 2003 as he could see his stock rise rather quickly.
