When Tony McNeal heads to Clemson on official visit during the second week in January, it could be a permanent stay.

McNeal still has work to finish at Chester High School, and it's possible that he could miss the first few days of the spring semester at Clemson.

His final week Chester is scheduled to start on Monday, Jan. 3. He'll take two exams that Friday. The following Monday, he has one more.

Assuming everything is accepted and made official, which McNeal expects, he'll be ready to enroll at Clemson.

"I'm going to take an official visit around the 12th. My parents and I are going to go down there," he recently told CUTigers. "Hopefully, I won't have to come back."

A former Chester teammate, Kalon Davis, is finishing his redshirt freshman year at Clemson. He went through the same process last January. He'll start semester No. 3 at Clemson next month.

Head coach Dabo Swinney and recruiting coordinator/wide receivers coach Jeff Scott recently had an in home visit with McNeal.

During the visit, Swinney updated the Scout.com No. 29 ranked senior quarterback on the progress of Davis, who's recovering from back surgery.

"Coach Swinney told me he saw [Davis] running before he came to visit me. That was good to know. He said the surgery went very well," McNeal said.

The Clemson coaches answered a variety of questions from McNeal's parents.

Also included in the visit was conversation that McNeal could be seeing a share of reps during his first day of practice.

"That's probably every high school quarterback's dream, being able to come in and compete for the starting job, and it's your first year in college," he said.

As a senior, the three-star quarterback completed 157 of 282 passes for 2,125 yards with 21 touchdowns.
