2012 CB adds Clemson offer

One of the top 2012 cornerbacks in the Southeast recently picked up an offer from Clemson when defensive ends coach Chris Rumph was by his school.

CUTigers caught up with St. Pius X Catholic School (Atlanta) junior cornerback Geno Smith, who recently spoke with Rumph.

"He told me I should come up for a visit soon. I was planning on it this Fall for a game, but I couldn't make it out," Smith said. "I'm excited about their offer. I plan on making a game day [visit]."

He's still learning about the Tigers' program.

"I don't know much, really. I know last year, they played in the ACC Championship against Georgia Tech. That's it, really. I'm not really familiar with them," Smith said.

Since Clemson's late November offer, South Carolina, Purdue, Oklahoma State and Virginia have also gotten into the mix, increasing his total number of offers to 14.

Smith visited Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia Tech, Georgia and Tennessee during the fall. All but Alabama have offered.

"I plan on breaking it down pretty soon, to a top five or a top seven, maybe," he said.

Several areas will be kept in mind as he looks to whittle down a list.

"Relationship with the coaches, facilities, tradition and academics," Smith said.

Don't expect a decision to come anytime soon.

"I'm going to take all of my official visits after my senior year," he said. "[A decision] will probably be in January or February."

As a junior, Smith finished with 47 tackles, 14 pass break-ups, and eight interceptions.
