Brooks checks on top 2012 safety

Twice this month, Clemson defensive tackles coach Dan Brooks was in North Carolina to see one of the top-rated safeties in the class of 2012.

Brooks saw Crest High School (Shelby) safety Rhaheim Ledbetter play in the North Carolina 3AA state championship game.

He also stopped by the high school.

"I talked to Dan Brooks after the state championship game," Ledbetter told CUTigers. "He was just talking about the state championship. He wants me to find some to come to Clemson and check them out some more."

Florida and Clemson were the only schools to send coaches through Crest in December.

"I believe I'll be going this summer to camps. I'll go to Florida and probably head to Clemson," Ledbetter said.

He attended at the Dabo Swinney Football Camp this past summer.

A few things stuck out about the camp stay.

"Working out with Brian Dawkins and talking to coach [Dabo] Swinney about how it would be if I came to Clemson," Ledbetter said.

Working with Dawkins was a real treat.

"He gave me some workouts that they do in the NFL," Ledbetter said. "He was strict on us. It was a good experience getting to work with Brian Dawkins."

Currently, Clemson and North Carolina are the only schools that have offered. He's also receiving interest from Florida, Missouri, Nebraska, USC and South Carolina.

"Right now, there are probably about 10 schools, I'm going to have to cut it down to five soon," Ledbetter said.

Clemson and North Carolina are up there, because of their offers, he said.

Ledbetter racked up 60 tackles, two interceptions and five tackles for loss. On the offensive side of the ball, he rushed for over 500 yards. Top Stories
