Dayton AD Comments on Purnell

"The worst curse for any AD is to have a coach no one wants, and after our great non-conference season, it was obvious that people would be interested in pursuing Oliver. So we have prepared for the possibility that we could be looking for a new coach come spring,' Said Dayton AD Ted Kissell.

"When Oliver came to the University of Dayton his task was to turn our program around, get us back in the post-season and to build a foundation for the Flyers to enjoy greater and more frequent success than we had in the recent past. He accomplished that, and we at the University of Dayton appreciate his efforts toward those goals. As good a coach as he is, he is a better person, and we wish him good luck at Clemson."

"Our men's basketball program is much different from the last time we hired a new head coach. It is stable and successful, we are in a premier conference, we added the Donoher Basketball Center four years ago and last summer the UD Arena underwent an extensive renovation. We have identified candidates with whom we wish to speak and we will begin the interview process immediately."
