Not only did he like it in Tuscaloosa, but his mother did too. The Crimson Tide is back in the mix for this four-star defensive tackle.
It was my first official visit and Alabama has set the bar high, very high," said Gabe Wright. "I was the only official visitor there and I really liked it like that. They had everything set up well as always, they treated me and my mother well, and my visits are off to a great start."
Wright had moved Alabama down towards the bottom of his list back in the fall, but this weekend has them on the way back up towards the top.
"I not only got to meet with Coach [Nick] Saban, but I got to meet with the entire coaching staff. I was around Coach Saban, Coach [Kirby] Smart, Coach [Chris] Rumph, the Athletic Director, and all of the other coaches, so that was great. I got to speak to them all, see how they were, and I had a great time."
"My mother loved it too. They wanted to make sure she had all of her answers, so they asked her specifically what she wanted to know, what she needed to see, and things like that. My mom really liked it over there. We got to see Coach Saban's land and my mom really liked Coach Saban's wife too. She liked it like I did."
"The visit really helped Alabama a lot. There is not one thing that really stood out to me, but my mother loving it tells me something. Alabama is Alabama and they do everything right and they are definitely in the race."
Auburn, Clemson, and Tennessee are in the race too and while the Auburn Tigers have held the top spot for some time, Wright is now stepping back from naming a leader.
"I just don't want to name a leader or put schools in any type of order anymore until I take all of my visits," said the 6-foot-3, 300 pound defensive tackle out of Columbus (GA) Carver. "I know I will probably like every trip, so I will just keep my list to four favorites until I finish up with Auburn at the end of the month."
Auburn could still hold the lead, but Wright did not state that during the interview, but what he did state was that Alabama is someone he is very much considering.
"Coach Saban and the other coaches kept it real with me and my mom and we both liked it there a lot. Coach Saban told me I could play the same role in their defense as Marcell Dareus did, how he is definitely staying at Alabama, and how their defense is always going to be great. I liked the trip, I am looking at them hard, and they laid everything out there the right way."
Tennessee will have Wright on their campus next weekend and then he will visit Clemson and Auburn the following two weekends. He will make his decision somewhere around or on Signing Day.
