Speedy ATH visiting on Saturday

The first trip to Clemson for one of the top 2012 athletes in South Carolina, who favors one in-state school over the other, will be this Saturday's junior day.

WR Chris Jenkins Profile

CUTigers caught up with Chris Jenkins, a 5-foot-10, 170 pound junior from Lake Marion High School.

"Right now, I'd say Clemson is in the lead with [South] Carolina coming on," he said, when asked about which schools are recruiting him the hardest.

Jenkins, who plays quarterback/wide receiver/linebacker/cornerback, is being recruited as a wide receiver by the Tigers and Gamecocks.

"To me, if I play on the offensive side of the ball, I just would like to have the ball in my hands, because I feel I can make big, explosive plays," he said. "On defense, I feel as though I could play cornerback. On defense, I can get the ball in my hands by intercepting it, so I figured that cornerback could be a position that fits for me.

The Scout.com projected wide receiver has never visited Tigertown.

"I'm looking to meet the coaches, see how everything's running, see if I can meet some of the players and see how they feel about the program," he said.

There's one school in the state that truly stands out. And it's Clemson.

"I liked C.J. Spiller when he was there, and Jacoby Ford, too. I like going for Clemson," he said.

Jenkins, of course, hears it from Gamecock supporters.

"There's this boy that goes to my school. He likes Alshon [Jeffery]. He heard I was getting a lot of interest from Clemson and he knew that Carolina was recruiting me," he said. "He was like, ‘You need to go to the SEC and go down there and play with Jeffery.' But I really like Clemson."

Lake Marion sophomore wide receiver Mike Williams is also expected to visit Clemson this weekend.
