Bonding with Cheese

The first trip to Clemson for this speedy athlete from the South Carolina Lowcountry was a good one.

WR Chris Jenkins Profile

Lake Marion High School junior Chris Jenkins made his first Clemson visit two Saturdays ago for the March Junior Day.

"It was good," he told "I felt like I created a bond with the defensive back coach, coach Cheese [Charlie Harbison]. He's a down to Earth guy that cares about academics."

In fact, Jenkins was very impressed with the focus the Tigers put on academics.

"They really are on their athletes with [Vickery Hall]. They want their athletes to have good grades. That's one thing that stood out to me," he said.

When the visitors broke off into position meetings, Jenkins went with the defensive backs, not the wide receivers.

The majority of his conversation with Harbison included.

"We were talking about camp, mostly we were talking about the academics, getting your academics right. They want you to get a degree," Jenkins said.

Jenkins' recruiter of note to Clemson is defensive ends coach Marion Hobby. Top Stories
