Hopper commits to Clemson

Clemson added a third commitment to the 2012 class when Germone Hopper made his pledge on Friday while visiting Tigertown.

Hopper, who was on campus for an unofficial visit Friday, confirmed the commitment in a text message to CUTigers shortly after 2:50 PM Friday.

As a junior, he put up impressive stats, rushing 162 times for nearly 1,400 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Hopper also caught 29 passes for 496 yards and three touchdowns.

He told CUTigers.com last month he expects to play several positions for the Tigers, at least that is what he was told by offensive coordinator Chad Morris.

"I would play the 2," he said. "It's a position they have. The 2, 5 and the 9, it's the slot, running back and outside wide receiver. He showed me Damaris Johnson from Tulsa, the one he used to coach.

"He showed me that he would use me like him. He showed me some clips of Damaris Johnson, showing me how he would use me."

Johnson is the NCAA's all-time leader in all-purpose yards.

Hopper, who is Clemson's third commitment in the 2012 recruiting class, rushed for 1,202 yards and 23 touchdowns and had 482 receiving yards and six scores as a sophomore. He also has 15 career return touchdowns.

His high school teammate, Nick Dawson, is also being considered by the Tigers. Both are looking at several of the same schools, and have even talked about going to school together.

He chose the Tigers over scholarship offers from Auburn, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Tennessee and N.C. State, among others.
