Tigers get first visit from Florida LB

Clemson hosted an under the radar sophomore linebacker/defensive end from Florida last week. What stood out? Who'd he see? And where will he head next?

It hasn't been long since defensive ends coach Marion Hobby started recruiting West Orange High School (Winter Park) sophomore Corey Vereen.

And last Monday, the 6-foot-2, 225-pound sophomore made his first visit to Tigertown.

"It was very organized. This being my first visit to a college, the campus was great. It's a good program with smart coaches and a great head coach," he told CUTigers.com after the visit.

Vereen and his father toured campus with director of high school relations Mike Dooley.

"We went around the campus, saw the facilities, saw the weight room, saw the field," Vereen said. "Got to check out where the freshmen stay and also got to check out the library. We also checked out the student/athlete hall. That was nice."

He was also able to meet with Hobby and head coach Dabo Swinney.

What stood out about the visit?

"I liked how all the buildings were together," Vereen said. "The football field is right by the campus. It's a very tight-knit community. It shows everybody believes in the program. It's a homey environment."

Vereen also plans to make visits to South Carolina and Florida State laster this year.

As a sophomore at West Orange, he finished with six sacks.
