Five in particular

ATHENS, Ga. - A few schools are standing out to four-star safety Travis Blanks. Who is in that mix? And how does Clemson measure up?

There's one common theme among the schools that are under consideration.

"Most of these schools I've named need DBs," Blanks told before Friday's Nike Football Training Camp. "I'd have a chance to come in and contribute real early, my freshman year, possibly."

The group isn't an official top-five, per se, just a few that he's evaluating the closest.

"I've got a couple of top schools, like Georgia, Auburn, Clemson, LSU and Alabama," Blanks said.

So far this spring, he's visited Auburn, Georgia and Florida State. His trip to Athens began on Wednesday and ended on Thursday, before the camp started.

He was scheduled to visit Clemson earlier this month, but those plans fell through.

Now, with spring practice about to get underway at Tallahassee's North Florida Christian, the rising senior will put recruiting on the back burner.

"I'm going to take trips to where I can, but it's not going to be as big of a priority, because I'm about to start spring practice," Blanks said.

The No. 12 safety talked about three of the schools that are among his favorites.

Clemson: Clemson is an upcoming program. They didn't have a good year last year. They're looking to bounce back and they need DBs.

Georgia: They have a genuine coaching staff. They're genuine, Christian guys. They live it, too. It's a great atmosphere.

Auburn: It's a great coaching staff. Auburn's got one those coaching staffs that you don't get a lot. They have a lot of different personalities and they put it all together to form a great family atmosphere.

Since he will graduate high school early, Blanks said he plans to start narrowing his list down towards the end of summer, at the latest. Top Stories
