ATHENS, Ga. - Three-star safety Chaz Elder has a pair of schools in mind, and there's not much separation between the two.

S Chaz Elder Profile

This spring, the Banneker High School (College Park, Ga.) junior has visited them both Clemson and Georgia, the two schools that have emerged as his favorites.

Elder stopped through Clemson in mid-February and was back in Tigertown in April. Earlier in the spring, he visited Georgia to watch a spring practice.

That'll be it for his spring visits. He did make the short drive from the Atlanta area to the University of Georgia for the Nike Football Training Camp on Friday.

"Clemson, I just like everything about them," Elder told CUTigers.com on Friday, "my playing time coming in, the coaches. I really like them."

As for Georgia, "a couple of my family members came here, and it's close."

Clemson defensive backs coach Charlie Harbison and recruiting coordinator/wide receivers coach Jeff Scott are both in frequent contact with him.

Harbison and Elder communicate once a week.

"It's mostly catching up and talking. It's just a little bit of how they need DBs," Elder said of the conversations with Harbison.

The Scout.com three-star is approaching a commitment, but didn't indicate which school it may be.

"I don't want to wait too long, but I don't want to make it too early," Elder said.

Along with Clemson and Georgia, Auburn, Illinois, Louisville, Arkansas, Mississippi, Vanderbilt and Southern Miss have also offered.

Elder finished his junior season with 85 tackles, two interceptions and 13 catches for 250 yards and two touchdowns.
