DT talks with Clemson Wednesday

North Carolina's top-rated defensive tackle holds offers from several schools in both the ACC and SEC, and two of them have been through his school this week.

Earlier this year, Chase High School (Forrest City) junior defensive tackle Carlos Watkins received his first offer from Clemson. Since then, schools like Florida, Alabama, North Carolina Miami and Georgia Tech have extended offers.

Clemson, Miami, North Carolina, Florida and Alabama are recruiting the Scout.com No. 14 defensive tackle in the 2012 class the hardest.

Clemson defensive tackles coach Dan Brooks serves as Watkins' primary recruiter for the Tigers.

"As a matter of fact, I talked to him today," Watkins told CUTigers.com on Wednesday. "We were talking about everything, just staying in touch."

Visit-wise, it's been a relatively quiet spring for Watkins, though he does plan on taking some trips in the near future.

"Hopefully I can get up to Clemson, North Carolina and try to get back down to Alabama," he said.

Since the start of the spring evaluation period, Wake Forest has stopped by, and North Carolina was scheduled to visit on Thursday.

Watkins wouldn't claim any favorites, but he did indicate what he's looking for in a school.

"Basically, I'm going to be looking at the facilities, what players do. That's pretty much it, look at academics and how academics go," he said.

As a junior, Watkins had 50 tackles, 14 sacks and 29 tackles for loss as a defensive lineman/linebacker.
