Big man has high interest in Clemson

During the recent evaluation period, Clemson associate head coach Rick Ray ventured down to Florida to check in on one of the nation's top 2012 big men.

Dwyer High School (Palm Beach Gardens) junior center Joell James saw plenty of coaches by his school over the four-day stretch.

North Carolina, Louisville, Ohio State, Kansas State, Florida, Florida State, West Virginia, South Florida and Central Florida were several of the suitors who stopped by earlier in April.

Ray came by on the third day coaches were permitted to visit.

"He calls me once a month, but I try to call him at least twice, three times a month," James recently told about his relationship with the Clemson assistant. "I try to talk to him on a regular basis."

What's the level of interest in Clemson?

"I'd say that I have a fairly high interest," he said.

It's the offensive philosophy of head coach Brad Brownell.

"The attack offense—I can see myself fitting in pretty well in their offense," James said. "They make a commitment to defense. It just fits my style of play."

What schools are standing out the most?

"It's kind of tough right now, because I haven't been on any visits," he said.

But James did mention Florida State, West Virginia, North Carolina, Louisville, N.C. State and Clemson as schools that have piqued his interest.

James has offers from Clemson, N.C. State, Florida, West Virginia and Florida State. He'll make a decision sometime during his senior year. Top Stories
