Brooks stopped by Mauldin High School last Thursday to check in on McLaughlin.

"He used his one phone call they've got in May," McLaughlin told "We were just talking about spring practice and how that's going. He was at the school and he can't talk to me. He just made sure and called. We just talked about camp."

Along with Clemson, South Carolina, N.C. State, Marshall and East Carolina have also made rounds through Mauldin. Kentucky and Wake Forest are also expected to visit.

McLaughlin recently participated in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas combine at Spartanburg High School.

"I'm hoping I get to play in it, with some of the best offensive linemen in the state against North Carolina," he said. "I'm hoping that I make it [or] North/South—anything."

Spring practice at Mauldin started on Monday. The Mavericks will be in just helmets and shorts until Thursday. Hitting starts on Monday.

McLaughlin currently holds offers from Wake Forest and East Carolina. He claims no favorites. Top Stories
