Back for more

After a one-day trip earlier this week, Clemson offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell wanted this 6-foot-4, 260-pound offensive guard from Georgia to attend next week's camp session.

Whitefield Academy [Mableton, Ga.] rising senior Jacob Southerland visited Clemson on Wednesday for the Dabo Swinney Football Camp.

"It was good. I haven't talked to coach Caldwell yet since he's been at Clemson. I used to talk to him when he was at Vandy. He saw me, recognized me immediately, and was asking how it is going," Southerland told

"We talked for a little while. I think I did pretty well. It started off pretty rough. I think I was tired from driving. The second practice, I think I did real well."

Last summer, Southerland camped at Vanderbilt, so he had received coaching from Caldwell previously.

"I really like him a lot, as a coach. He's funny, but he also gets after it. I like a coach that gets fired up," Southerland said.

Central Florida is currently his only offer to date. Southerland remains under evaluation by Clemson and several others.

After his Wednesday camp stop, Southerland spoke with Caldwell to see where he stands with the Tigers.

"[Caldwell] said he wanted to invite me back to camp and he'll really be able to tell me where I stand, if I'm an offer or [not]," Southerland said. "He said, probably next week, he'll be able to evaluate me more and tell me where I stand."

The specifics of his return for next week's session have not been ironed out. Southerland said he would call his recruiter of note, running backs coach Tony Elliott, later this weekend to set the date. Top Stories
