No. 14: Xavier Brewer

The start of spring practice is two weeks away and CUTigers.com has reached No. 14 on the top 25 countdown.

14. CB Xavier Brewer, RS Jr.
Listed on the depth chart as one of the two starting cornerbacks. When the Clemson defense moves into its nickel package, Brewer will play the Star position.

THE RESUME: Brewer was ranked as the No. 13 cornerback in the nation by Scout.com in the class of 2008. He played in the Under Armour All-American game with high school teammate Kyle Parker.

After taking a redshirt during his first year on campus, Brewer played 119 snaps in all 14 games. He registered 15 tackles and three pass breakups.

Last season, Brewer played in all 13 games and had 10 starts. In 649 snaps he had 54 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions and eight pass breakups.

MOVING FORWARD: Defensive coordinator Kevin Steele thinks very highly of Brewer, who is slated to take over the starting Star job for Marcus Gilchrist.

Brewer had a solid 2010, though there were a few ups and downs. But that's to be expected with a young cornerback. Look for him to put together a stronger, more consistent season this fall.
