PF Josh Smith Profile
Olympic High School senior Josh Smith was somewhat surprised when Brad Brownell and the Tigers extended the offer.
"I was and I wasn't," Smith recently told CUTigers.com. "The reason I say I wasn't is because I have the potential to play high-major. I was surprised because all I had [before] were mid-major offers."
Wake Forest, Virginia and Georgia have also expressed interest. Smith believes the Demon Deacons and Cavaliers could be offering soon. He's not sure what the Bulldogs are going to do.
The 6-foot-8, 250-pound power forward currently holds 14 mid-major offers, including Winthrop, UNC-Greensboro, Tulane, Western Carolina, Drexel, Appalachian State, Presbyterian, Gardner-Webb, The Citadel and High Point.
He has no lists of favorites.
"In about a couple of weeks, I'm going to see what all calls and offers I have. I'm just going to narrow my list down," Smith said. "I'm trying to sign before my high school season starts."
With assistant coach Earl Grant running the point on Smith's recruitment, Clemson has been in the picture for close to a year now.
"Coach Grant invited me down there for the elite camp. They were showing me some interest then," Smith said.
"I'm really interested in Clemson," he said.
So what does Smith think of Tigertown?
"The facilities are nice. I love it down there," he said.
His only other campus visit was to Appalachian State.
Clemson, along with most schools, is recruiting Smith to play power forward. Some of the mid-major suitors like him as a power forward/center combo player.
"Playing time isn't really an issue with me, because I can work hard. It's where I'm going to be comfortable at," he said. "That's basically my main concern, right now."
As a junior at Olympic, Smith averaged 12 points and 9 rebounds a game.
