One of the top free safety prospects in the state of North Carolina is considering several schools, including the Clemson Tigers. Details on the recruitment of this fine athlete are contained in this report.

Dudley High School
Greensboro, North Carolina

The offer sheet for Dudley (NC) safety Martel Thatch is quickly growing, and he could decide soon.

"Virginia, North Carolina, Duke, and Clemson have all offered me in writing while Miami and South Carolina have verbal offers right now," says the 6-foot-2, 180 pounder who once was leaning towards Virginia and North Carolina.

"I am just wide open right now, but I will probably still commit early. I do not know to whom, but I just want to get it over with so I can focus on my senior season."

Thatch finished his junior year with 91 tackles and 9 interceptions returning three for touchdowns en route to All-Conference honors and a berth in the state championship.

"The thing that gives Martel an edge, is that he is a prototypical free safety," says Dudley head coach Victor Floyd. "He's big, he can run, he's athletic and he can jump. He possesses all of the tools you would look for in a big time free safety. He'll come down and hit you and he can play man coverage."

Thatch, who has gone on record as saying he'd like to commit early in the recruiting process, is being recruited by Clemson assistant coach Mike O'Cain. Grades shouldn't be a problem either, as Thatch carries a 3.0 GPA in his core classes.
