Thursday Dabo Swinney audio

CLEMSON - Head coach Dabo Swinney begins to look at the first game of the season -- next Saturday's showdown against Troy.

On toughness...
"We've come a long way in two years. It's a process, but we're a much tougher football team, no doubt about it. You watch our guys play and how they've competed for 60 minutes. The first year, and even last year. They lined up and competed their butts off. We handled adversity. All those things are good signs of toughness. They've practiced the right way. They've worked hard in the summers. We've grown in that are a ton, but we're still not where we need to be. We're not as nasty as we need to be, yet. Again, some of that is recruiting and continuing to get the culture the way you want it. We've made a lot of progress, no doubt about it.

Mental/physical toughness...
What we do is about developing that, mentally and physically. What we do isn't just about banging into each other. The mental side of it is just as important. Coming off a third-and-one, goal line -- whatever it is -- you're faced with having to make a difficult decision when nobody is looking. You're going to have the toughness to do what's right

Examples of who's tough?
Chad Diehl, Tajh Boyd, Nuke Hopkins, Jonathan Meeks, Rashard Hall, Corico Hawkins, Tig Willard, Quandon Christian, Andre Branch, Brandon Thompson. Do you want me to keep going? I can call the roster. We've got a bunch of tough guys on this team. Top Stories
