DT D.J. Reader Profile
Grimsley High School [Greensboro, N.C.] senior D.J. Reader was originally offered by Clemson as an offensive lineman. The Tigers are recruiting him as a defensive tackle.
He's been on the Clemson board as a defensive tackle for the last two months.
"Everything's going good. I'm going to go down to N.C. State this weekend and watch their game. I'm coming down to Clemson for the game on the 22nd against Carolina," Reader told CUTigers.com recently."That's all I have scheduled right now. I'm still looking at some other dates and thinking about my official visits."
Auburn and Maryland will also receive official visits.
Clemson was an ideal destination for several reasons.
"It's a really good school with really good academics. They have good football coaches, traditional, good program. It's a college town," Reader said. "It's one of those places you could see yourself raising a family there. Clemson is a really cool place, to me."
He last visited Tigertown in the spring for Junior Day. There, he met offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell, who now serves as the recruiter of note.
Reader recently named a top-10 of Maryland, ECU, Clemson, UNC, N.C. State, Duke, Auburn, Appalachian State, Elon, and Miami.
"There's probably a top six or seven, but not really favorites right now," he said.
A decision won't be made until signing day.
"I just have got to see what school is right for me and just decide which things I really, really like, just weigh out the pluses and minuses about each school," Reader said. "That's what I'm going to be spending my time doing between December and signing day."
Though he has no preference for position, he does want options. Reader plans to play baseball at the college level, too.
Reader throws a 92 mph fastball and finished with a 3-1 record and 1.50 ERA last season. He also hit over .500 as a junior.
The No. 27 offensive guard in the class of 2012, according to Scout.com, Reader bench presses 350 pounds, squats 560, and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.92 seconds.
