New developments at WR

One of the state's top 2012 wide receivers was in Clemson for Saturday's 35-30 win over No. 11 Florida State and there could be pretty big news on horizon.

Lately, there hadn't been much contact between the three-star wide receiver and Clemson. That tune has changed over the last several days with the future of one of the Tigers' wide receivers in doubt.

Before the game on Saturday, the Gaffney High School senior caught up with his recruiter of note, wide receivers coach Jeff Scott, and offensive coordinator Chad Morris.

"They weren't really telling me details about it, because they said they're going to release all of that on Monday," Davis told "They were just telling me to just stay focused on my season and be patient."

Clemson coaches had planned to take just one wide receiver in the 2012 class. With Germone Hopper committed, there wasn't going to be any room for Davis.

"They told me that they were going to take one wide receiver," Davis said. "[Hopper committed] and they were telling me it was too late for me, but they were saying there might be a spot opening up, but they had to fill their needs. If all their needs were filled, then they would come try to recruit me."

Once again, the interest is mutual.

"I really like Clemson," he said. "I was trying to see how many offers I could get, then I was going to start breaking it down by all the details."

The No. 44 wide receiver in the class of 2012 holds offers from Clemson, South Carolina, N.C. State, Wake Forest and Illinois.

Davis said a decision is on the horizon.

"It will be soon after football season. I'm not going to wait all the way until February," he said.

So far this season, Davis has 40 catches for 803 yards and 10 touchdowns.

As a junior, he finished with 95 catches for 1,486 yards receiving and 16 touchdowns. Top Stories
