Steele, Brooks in on four-star DT

Clemson defensive coordinator Kevin Steele and defensive tackles coach Dan Brooks have made a good impression on one of the nation's top 2013 defensive tackles.

South View High School [Hope Mills, N.C.] junior Greg Gilmore already holds several offers -- Clemson, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, N.C. State, Tennessee and ECU.

"Coach Steele is one of the coaches I talk to the most," Gilmore told, "Him and coach Brooks."

The four-star defensive tackle is impressed with what he's seen from the Tigers' assistants.

"They have a lot of experience. I can really see the experience on Saturdays. I can see it showing on Saturdays," Gilmore said. "They have a lot of knowledge. They know what they're talking about. They're not going to steer anybody wrong."

Because of the commitment to his high school team, Gilmore has not taken any game day visits this fall.

Where might he head when his schedule clears up?

"Definitely to all the places close, of course," Gilmore said. "South Carolina, Clemson, I want to see the Tar Heels play, and then I want to go to the far schools that are interested in me.

"I'm not going to go a game if I'm not interested in that school. I've got too many people talking to me now, so I need to go ahead and narrow it down. Really, if I got to that school, I'm interested in it."

Who leads?

"I don't know. I haven't been able to do anything," he said. "This football season has been important. My junior season is really important me. I've been trying to train hard, study hard, go to film sessions, so I haven't really been able to get into my recruiting process."

A trip to Alabama could be in the works this weekend.

"I really wanted to go to the Alabama game this weekend. I hope I'm able to make it. But, right now, I'm not, because of this playoff game," Gilmore said.

As a sophomore, he had 70 tackles and a sack. Top Stories
