SPREAD: Clemson -17.5

A year ago, Clemson upped its all-time series record against The Citadel to 59-22 with a 69-54 win at Littlejohn Coliseum.

Wednesday's game will be the first time in over 20 years that the Bulldogs have hosted the Tigers. Brownell would have preferred "two or three" more games at Clemson before hitting the road.

"We need to do this," he said. "It's something that will help, because we've got other road games in the first part of the year, [a] non-conference schedule that we need to prepare for as well."

Clemson is coming off a season opening 65-44 win over Gardner-Webb.

"Our execution was pretty good. Guys made some shots, which was good to see," Brownell said. "We just have to take care of the ball better, offensively."

The Citadel [1-1] opened the season at the All-Military Classic with a 103-100 loss to VMI and an 83-72 win over Army.

"I think their guard play has been very good. He's playing a lot of freshman kids that seem to be very aggressive," Brownell said. "The [Mike] Groselle kid inside is a good player who hurt us last year. We had a hard time keeping him off the boards last year. That will be a strong point of emphasis."

The Citadel is led by first-year head coach Chuck Driesell, the son of legendary coach Lefty Drisell.

"The other thing that sticks out to me when I watch Citadel play, they're really two different teams," Brownell said. "When they play bigger, they're not as fast. But, physically, very strong and try to beat you up inside.

"Then, they can also move Bo Holston to the four and they become a very athletic team that tries to drive you and dribble penetration."
