One of the top defensive backs in his state, West Charlotte (NC) cornerback Rod Council has his third offer. "Clemson offered him yesterday," says head coach Pete Gilchrist.

This makes three total offers for Council with previous offers from Duke and Navy. Council has a 4.0 GPA and 900 SAT score.

Council was as impressive as any of the 200-plus attendees at last Saturday's football combine at Ragsdale High School. He ran the pro agility drill in a miniscule 4.23 seconds, despite nursing two sore hamstrings.

That feat, along with a 4.5 in the 40-yard dash and a 31-inch vertical jump, has lifted Council's stock considerably over the past week. Council had six interceptions last year and ran two back for touchdowns. He also ran back two kicks. Council was All-Conference as a sophomore and junior.

"Overall his drive to succeed is the best," W. Charlotte head coach Pete Gilchrist said. "When I came here two years ago, he was a tenth grader. When we first held practice – not knowing the kid – I could tell he could absorb so much information and try to be the best player he could be."

"Naturally, he's has God-given ability and talent, but he still doesn't rest on those laurels. He's the type of kid that tries his best to keep getting better. If something is not right, he'll find a way to get it done. He's the same way in the classroom."

Council is also hearing from Maryland, Connecticut, N.C. State, and North Carolina. He is already scheduled to camp at UNC this summer, but has yet to determine any other potential stops.
