Clemson's key targets finish strong

CUTigers takes a close look at how Clemson's key targets finished their high school seasons, and in some cases their careers at the prep level.

Zac Brooks, who spent half of his regular season dealing with a sprained ankle, registered 63 carries for 653 yards and nine touchdowns. He also had 28 catches for 414 yards and five touchdowns. In three playoff games, he logged two 100-yard rushing games.

At Charlotte's Berry Academy, Germone Hopper totaled over 2,000 yards receiving, rushing and returning this season. He also scored 26 total touchdowns.

Through 12 games, Travis Blanks had 47 tackles and two interceptions for North Florida Christian in Tallahassee, Fla. He will enroll at Clemson in January.

The four-star prospect will host the Clemson coaches for his in-home visit on Wednesday night.

As a junior, Chad Kelly became the first quarterback in New York history to throw for 2,000 yards and run for 1,000 as a junior. This season, he passed for a western New York record 3,056. He also rushed for 1,000.

His career total of 5,215 is the third-highest in western New York and 17th on the state's all-time list. He's the only quarterback of the state's all-time top passers to not play at least three years. Kelly played just two at St. Joe's in Buffalo.

Marty Williams rushed 195 times for 1,806 yards with 26 touchdowns. He also completed 65 of 122 passes for 1,243 yards with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. On the defensive side of the ball, where he'll play at Clemson, Williams had 89 Tackles, two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Cordrea Tankersley rushed for 650 rushing yards and five touchdowns and passed for 708 yards and six scores. On the defensive side of the ball for Silver Bluff, he had 40 tackles.

Bradley Pinion averaged 46 yards per punt with a 4.5 second hang time. On kickoffs, he averaged 68 yards per attempt. He will enroll early.

Todd Gurley rushed for over 2,000 yards and had 34 touchdowns for state champion Tarboro [N.C.]. In the North Carolina AA championship win over Lincolnton, he rushed for 242 yards and four touchdowns.

The four-star running back is down to Clemson, North Carolina, Georgia and N.C. State.

Grimsley [Greensboro, N.C.] defensive tackle D.J. Reader recorded 73 tackles on the defensive side of the ball and rushed for 450 yards on the offensive.

The three-star prospect is considering Clemson, Maryland and North Carolina. Classified by as a guard, he would play defensive tackle at Clemson.

Kenderious Whitehead had 110 tackles and 19 sacks for King in Lithonia, Ga.

Clemson, Georgia and N.C. State remain under consideration.

Gaffney senior wide receiver Quinshad Davis finished with 100 catches for 1,825 yards and 24 touchdowns.

Still waiting to see whether Clemson or South Carolina will make a move on him, Davis also has offers from Wake Forest, Tennessee and Illinois.

Bishop Kenny [Jacksonville, Fla.] junior wide receiver Ahmad Fulwood had 1,037 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns.

Manatee [Bradenton, Fla.] junior quarterback Cord Sandberg has completed 154 of 208 passes for 1,843 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also rushed 124 times for 648 yards and eight scores.

For Jacksonville's Trinity Christian, junior safety Nick Washington had 32 tackles, a sack and two interceptions. On the offensive side of the ball, he rushed 46 times for 512 yards and eight touchdowns and caught nine passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns.

Junior wide receiver Mike Williams had 64 receptions for 1,141 yards and 10 touchdowns at Lake Marion.

Southview [Hope Mills, N.C.] junior defensive tackle Greg Gilmore had 79 tackles, two sacks, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a safety.

All-conference junior wide receiver Uriah LeMay caught 43 passes for 842 yards and 14 touchdowns for Butler [Matthews, N.C.] this season. He also rushed 38 times for 397 yards with five scores.

Junior defensive end Tyquan Lewis had over 50 tackles and logged five sacks for Tarboro.

At Lake City, junior linebacker Devaris Brunson finished the season with 172 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, eight forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and an interception.

Spartanburg junior linebacker Justin Bridges-Thompson registered 148 tackles, three knockdowns, two forced fumbles and seven tackles for loss.

Bishop Kenny sophomore quarterback John Wolford completed 152 of 239 passes for 2,669 yards with 35 touchdowns and three interceptions. He also rushed 71 times for 511 yards and eight scores.

For Easley, sophomore running back C.J. Fuller rushed 115 times for 805 yards.

Caleb Kinlaw, a sophomore running back at Goose Creek, rushed for 1,366 yards and 162 carries and scored eight touchdowns.

Woodruff sophomore wide receiver Blake Bone had 62 catches for 1,009 yards and 10 touchdowns. Top Stories
