Steele not returning to Clemson

CUTigers has confirmed that Kevin Steele will not return as Clemson's defensive coordinator in 2012.

Sources have not made it clear to CUTigers whether Steele was fired or that he elected to step down from his position.

After losing five starters from the 2010 squad, the Clemson defense finished 71st in the country total defense in 2011 by allowing 394.4 yards per game.

In terms of scoring defense, the Tigers were 81st with 29.3 points allowed.

Steele's final game at Clemson, a 70-33 Orange Bowl loss to West Virginia, saw the Tigers' defense allow 589 yards of total offense.

Clemson finished in the top-25 in both categories during Steele's first two seasons. Top Stories
