Davis official is on

Though Mike Davis remains committed to South Carolina, he will take an official visit to Clemson next weekend.

The Stephenson High School [Stone Mountain, Ga.] committed to the Gamecocks while on his official visit in Columbia last week. His trip to Clemson had been planned prior to that commitment.

"I'm just trying to see how it is up there and hang out with the players coaches," Davis told CUTigers.

Ranked as the No. 10 running back in the class of 2012, Davis liked what he saw while in Columbia for the visit.

"It was just me, the way I felt up there. I felt like it was the place for me to be," he said.

Davis joined Stephenson teammates Carlos Hood and Kyle Fleetwood in South Carolina's 2012 class. Their former teammate, Kadetrix Marcus, signed with the Gamecocks a year ago.

"That helped and me having a teammate already up there helped," Davis said.

He added, "I like the fact that it's headed in the right direction. They run the ball a lot. I think I can come in and help out."

Clemson, Davis said, shares those same qualities.

"They run the ball also. They went to the ACC Championship. They had a good season. Of course, my brother went there," he said.

Davis' brother is former Clemson running back James Davis.

As a senior at Stephenson last fall, Davis rushed for 1,923 yards and 21 touchdowns.
