Junior Day in Clemson

One of the top junior defensive ends in North Carolina's 2013 class, Dane Rogers, hit Clemson late last month for Junior Day.

The Crest High School [Shelby, N.C.] prospect spoke with CUTigers about that visit to Tigertown.

"It just felt like it was when I went with Jon [Bullard] and Carlos [Watkins] when I went with them for visits," Rogers said. "The basketball game against Wake Forest, that was great. That was the first college basketball game I'd been to. That went real well. That atmosphere was great."

He added, "Clemson is a great school. The academics are about where I was looking forward it to be. All of the coaches were cool."

Rogers met with his recruiter of note, defensive tackles coach Dan Brooks and defensive ends coach Marion Hobby.

"He said he wanted me to come back to the junior day at the beginning of March," Rogers said. "Coach Hobby told me he wanted me to come back to summer camp. He wants to work with me a little bit, which I'm looking forward to."

He also met defensive coordinator Brent Venables.

"I met coach Venables at the dinner. He's a real cool guy. He just wanted to make me feel right at home," Rogers said.

A potential offer from the Tigers wasn't discussed.

"They weren't speaking on offer terms. They were just making me feel comfortable, right at home," he said.

Rogers received his first offer while in Raleigh for the N.C. State junior day.

"I was quite surprised. It just came out of nowhere," he said. "Luckily, it came from Coach Tom O'Brien himself."

A junior day trip to Florida is on the docket and a visit to Wake Forest could also be in the works.

Rogers bench presses 290 pounds, squats 370, and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.8 seconds.
