Tigers, Venables evaluating Boulware

Ben Boulware, one of the top linebackers in South Carolina's 2013 class, recently met face to face with Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables.

The Tiger's first-year assistant told Boulware that he'd recently watched his highlights.

"He invited me to the junior day on March 3, but I'd already committed to going to the Georgia junior day on March 3. I'd been telling them for the past couple of weeks that I would go there," Boulware told CUTigers in a recent interview.

It was the first-time the T.L. Hanna [Anderson] junior met Venables in person.

"I talked to him for maybe 10 minutes. I honestly don't really know that much about him right now," Boulware said.

He'll have a chance to get to know Venables better in the near future. Boulware plans to take an unofficial trip to Clemson the week following his trip to Georgia.

Though he's yet to pick up an offer from either one of the major players in the state, Stanford, UCLA, Maryland, Ole Miss, USF, UConn, Duke and Minnesota have offered.

Like Clemson, South Carolina stays in contact.

"I get hand written letters from the USC coaching staff every day. I don't know what that means, but hopefully something good," Boulware said.

The 6-foot-1, 225-pound linebacker is just happy to have more choices. For a while, his lone offer was USF.

"It's pretty cool. Before this, I would get a couple of messages on Facebook from coaches inviting me to junior days," he said. "I'm finally getting offers, so that's pretty good. I hope some more come in."

As a junior, Boulware had 181 tackles, four tackles for loss, four sacks, four forced fumbles, four pass breakups and a blocked punt.
