Q&A with Bobby Hutchinson

The Tigers picked up a key verbal commitment almost two weeks ago when Florida native Bobby Hutchinson chose Clemson over Syracuse, Florida, and Florida State. CUTigers.com caught up with Bobby late Monday evening to ask him some questions about his arrival on campus in 2004.

What made you go decide to go ahead and commit so early?
Hutchinson: I've really liked Clemson ever since I was a little. It's a school where I just think I'm going to fit in well at. I like the coaches too.

What are your latest vital stats?
Hutchinson: I'm 6-feet, 5-inches tall, I weigh 270-pounds, and I run the 40-yard dash in 5-seconds.

Which position will you be playing on the offensive line?
Hutchinson: Center. That's the only position I play for my team, I don't play on defense.

What are some your strengths as an O-lineman?
Hutchinson: For my size I think I'm pretty quick. Plus, if I make a mistake or two I can correct it fairly quickly.

What are some of your weaknesses?
Hutchinson: Pass blocking, sitting back. I've gotten better about it, but I know I still need to work.

Who was the main coach recruiting you?
Hutchinson: Coach Sweeney. I talked to Coach West for about 10-15 minutes when I decided to commit, but Coach Sweeney was my main recruiter from Clemson.

How is your team looking heading into your senior season?
Hutchinson: We were 10-1 (Class 2A) and made it to the 3rd round of the playoffs last season and we've got a lot of those guys coming back this year, so we should be pretty good.

Have you been up to Clemson yet? Are you planning on going up for any camps?
Hutchinson: No not yet. I'm going up there for an unofficial visit on July 19th. The coaches said that I didn't really need to make it up to camp since I've already committed.

Any chance to take any official visits to other schools before signing day?
Hutchinson: No, I don't think so.

What were some of the other schools recruiting you hard?
Hutchinson: I'd say FSU, Florida, and Syracuse. I had an offer from Syracuse.

Any chance you could change your mind if Florida or FSU decide to offer you a scholarship?
Hutchinson: No, I don't think so.

Have the coaches talked to you about some of the other offensive linemen that they are looking at in the 2004 class?
Hutchinson: Yeah, they have. Coach Sweeney said that they will be bringing in at least 3 or 4 more.

We'd like to conclude by thanking Bobby for taking the time to speak with us.
