"I actually started playing in seventh [grade]," Tartt said. "When I got into high school I was playing some defense. I started to get into weightlifting pretty heavily and that really helped me with my strength. I went from 280 to 315 with my weight and I went from 320 to 450 on the bench."

Weightlifting is something Tartt does competitively at the school. He finished second in the state in his weight class as a junior.

"That's OK because he was a senior," he said. "Hopefully I'll be stronger and be able to win it next year."

Tartt, a full academic qualifier, lifted 185 pounds 36 times at the NIKE Camp in Gainesville. That type of strength combined with excellent footwork and skills has turned Tartt into one of the state's top offensive line prospects.

"A lot of coaches came by to see spring practice this year," he said. "Then a lot of them called me on the phone."

Tartt remembers the first school that stopped by.

"The coach from Miami was actually the first one that came through," he said. "It was cool seeing him out there. He didn't call me on the phone like some of the other ones though."

The talented offensive lineman did receive several May recruiting calls, however only has a couple offers.

"Florida State and Clemson are my only two scholarship offers right now though." Tartt named six schools that he's currently considering.

"I really like Florida State and Florida," he said. "I got a chance to meet the Florida coaches at a photo shoot there last week. As for FSU,. I've always liked them. Miami's a good school too and I like them some as well. I was excited to see them out at practice. I also like Georgia, Michigan, and Clemson. I'm not going to rush into any decisions yet because I'm going to wait to see who else offers later on."

We will continue to keep you updated on Jim Tartt, right up through signing day.
