QUOTEBOARD: Clemson 4 Elon 2

GREENVILLE - Junior catcher Spencer Kieboom needed only a few words during his second inning mound visit to clam down freshman pitcher Daniel Gossett.

Early on, it was a struggle for the freshman from nearby Byrnes High School. He allowed three hits and two runs in the first.

Inning No. 2 didn't get off to the best start. Gossett fell behind the lead-off batter, 2-0. That's when Kieboom challenged him.

"They called an inside pitch and I went soft, away," Gossett said. "[Kieboom] said, ‘You've got to have some presence. You can't come here on an inside pitch and go soft, away. Have some presence. Have some guts about you.'"

The kid they call ‘Goose' flipped it into cruise control the rest of the way home. He struck out 10, walked two and didn't allow another hit after the first.

Win No. 1,200 for Jack Leggett…
"It's emotional, a little bit. I've been doing this for a long period of time. A lot of really good players and coaches that have been along with me, at the University of Vermont and Western Carolina University…they got a piece of it. I've been here, I guess, 19 now. Just a lot of really good friends, a lot of good coaches, a lot of good people to help along the way -- there were a lot of good players along the way -- a lot of close ball games. To reflect back on it, I don't know, it's kind of neat. A little bit emotional for me. I don't know what the problem is with me. I enjoy doing what I'm doing. Hopefully, there are a few more in the tank." - Leggett

"That's definitely an impressive number at any level. Congrats to him. It's a testimony to this program and how hard they work and how productive they are at what they do." - Brad Felder

Mike Dunster goes 3-for-4…
"I felt pretty comfortable. We got a lot of extra hitting in [batting practice]. They help us keep our swing pretty sharp. It was exciting. It was exciting to finally get an opportunity and help the team win." - Dunster

"Dunster stepped up for us tonight. He did a really nice job. He hit the ball on the nose four times. The first one was a line drive right to the shortstop…he had a real big night for us. He's been kind of hiding behind some of the other guys, but has been very patient. [He] got his opportunity tonight and took some really good swings for us. I'm real proud of him, because he works hard every day." - Leggett

"He definitely took advantage of his time being out there. I think he's a really good hitter. He's just been waiting for his chance to get in the lineup and make something happen." - Felder

Goose was good…
"I've been struggling a little bit. To come out here and pitch like this, it's a lift of my confidence and my team." - Gossett

"He had a real good fastball and a real good breaking ball. He was very, very good after the first inning." - Leggett

"Throwing inside was huge. Coach [Dan Pepicelli] that I was being scared. I can't live with being scared. I just had to go in there and throw inside." - Gossett

"There are a lot of good things to come if he keeps pitching like that for us. I thought he pitched really well." - Leggett
