Vincent: "Today was Very Exciting"

Clemson assistant coaches Ron West & David Blackwell picked up their first verbal commitment for the Clemson Tigers yesterday morning when they received a call from one of South Carolina's top linebackers in Courtney Vincent. CUTigers caught up Courtney and we've got the latest on his special day in this extensive report.

June 23rd is a day that the Vincent family will not forget anytime soon. "Today was very exciting. It went real well." So what made the All-State linebacker decide to commit to the Tigers today? "My family really wanted me to go ahead plus I think I can be a big help in that program."

The addition of coach Blackwell to the Clemson staff had a major impact on Vincent's decision. "I think the coaching staff knows what they're doing, especially coach Blackwell. He's really nice and he's going to do good things for Clemson. They are going to take the Tigers to much success in the future." Vincent was officially recruited by coach West but the credit for this commitment definitely goes to coach Blackwell.

Coach Blackwell and coach West were very pleased to get the early morning call from the Fairfax defensive star. "They were very excited. They were glad I went ahead and committed. I talked to coach Blackwell and coach West. I will probably talk with coach Bowden tomorrow."

Although Vincent has very impressive 4.6 speed, he plans to play in the middle for the Tigers. "My strengths are the way I think on the field and my quickness and ability to move," said Vincent.

Vincent plans to get even faster in his senior season for Allendale-Fairfax High School. "I am going to continue to work on my speed."

South Carolina State is Vincent's other current offer but he expects South Carolina and LSU to possibly offer in the future. "That won't matter. I'm a Tiger now."

It's easy to guess Vincent's favorite Tiger. "John Leake is my favorite," stated Vincent. We would like to thank Courtney for taking time on a very busy day to share his experience with CUTigers.com.
