On Tuesday afternoon, Clemson sent out an offer to this 6-foot-3, 225-pound defensive end from Orlando.

The Tigers' offer surprised Jones High School junior defensive end Devin Washington.

"I was in National Honor Society practice and my coach texted me told me that I've got a Clemson offer. I was excited and ecstatic about it," Washington told CUTigers on Tuesday night.

Before the offer, he hadn't received much contact from Clemson.

"It kind of surprised me. It just came out of nowhere," Washington said. "I just called one of the coaches today. I'm going to try to get back at him and see if I can get him on the phone later on."

Cincinnati, Duke, FIU, Illinois, Kansas, Louisville, Ole Miss, Rutgers, South Carolina, UCF, Vanderbilt and West Virginia are among the schools that have offered.

Now that Clemson is in the mix, Washington has some catching up to do.

"I don't know that much about them. I wasn't really looking into them that much since I didn't really know they had interest. Now that they do, I'm going to research it," he said. "I got to watch them play against Georgia Tech. That was an upset, but they still played well. I followed them through the season a little bit. Sammy Watkins, he was a monster.

"I'm definitely interested in learning more about them now that I have the offer."

Washington has no list of favorites.

During his spring break, he visited South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Duke and N.C. State. He's also taken spring visits to Miami, Florida, Auburn and UCF. A spring game visit to UCF is in the cards for this weekend.

As a junior, Washington had 55 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks and a forced fumble. Top Stories
