Top DE talks Clemson, recruiting

One of the top defensive ends in the class of 2013 recently updated CUTigers on the latest in his recruitment.

DE Dane Rogers Profile

Crest High School [Shelby, N.C.] junior defensive end Dane Rogers visited Clemson in the final weekend of January for the first Junior Day event of the year.

He hasn't made any stops since the trip to Tigertown.

"I'm planning on going to see some places. I want to see if any other offers come in, see if they're really showing interest in me," Rogers said. "If Florida offers, more than likely, I'll try to go down there. I should be going back to Clemson sometime this summer."

Clemson, North Carolina, N.C. State, Rutgers and Tennessee have offered.

Who leads?

"I pretty much tell everybody, in the end, when it comes down to making my decision, Clemson and Florida are pretty much going to be there."

His cousin, defensive tackle Carlos Watkins, signed with Clemson in February.

"I loved it. It was my first college football game ever. Now that my cousin Carlos is going there…to have that option [of playing together] at a high level, that would be very exciting for both of us and our families," Rogers said.

Florida is appealing because former Crest linebacker Brandon Spikes had such a successful career in Gainesville.

"It was just awesome watching him on TV, because it's somebody you know very well playing on TV for Florida," Rogers said. "Of course, you're going to be like, ‘Man, I want to go there.'"

As a junior, he had 120 tackles and five sacks. rates Rogers as a three-star prospect. Top Stories
