The Tigers offer came as a surprise to the 6-foot-3, 175-pound prospect.

"It was my first and I'm a sophomore, and I didn't know sophomores could get offers," he told CUTigers after the Nike Football Training Camp in Charlotte.

"Lately, offers have been flying in. I'm still excited. I can go to college for free and I've got many choices."

Thompson also has offers from Florida, Minnesota, N.C. State, Ohio State, Purdue, South Carolina and Vanderbilt.

The Tigers could potentially have a slight advantage.

"It's always going to be in your mind, because it's the first offer," Thompson said.

He recently visited Tigertown for the spring game.

What stood out?

"The love the coaches gave me and how they said I would fit in their offense, how I would be a good fit for them."

So far, Clemson, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Florida and N.C. State have been by Hillside this spring.

Thompson caught seven touchdown passes as a sophomore.
