SG Sindarius Thornwell Profile
Thornwell, a rising senior from Lancaster High School, will start class at Oak Hill Academy in Virginia on Aug. 25.
"It wasn't really to focus on my game, but to improve academically…I'll be more prepared for college," he told CUTigers in a recent interview.
The No. 4 shooting guard in the country expects to be fully qualified by the time he's ready to hit the college ranks next summer.
"I really don't have that much work to do. I've got to take some more classes," Thornwell said. "My ninth grade year, I kind of played around, I got two D's. I'm just going to retake them so my transcript can be better."
On Tuesday, he was back home in Lancaster after taking a visit to Oak Hill.
"I liked it. It's nice. It's not what everybody expects. Most people think since it's Oak Hill that it's going to be real nice, but it's just like any other school," he said. "I liked it. The classrooms are real small so I can learn better and be more focused in class."
A 6-foot-4, 175-pound prospect, Thornwell recently picked up offers from Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Georgia, Cincinnati and Memphis.
Clemson, South Carolina, N.C. State, Tennessee and Virginia Tech are among the schools that have also offered.
Several factors will be considered as he continues through the process.
"One, they've got to be like family. I want to be comfortable with the style of play. It's got to be up tempo, not a slow, Princeton-style offense," Thornwell said. "How important are academics to the coaches? And do they have what I want to major in?"
Broadcast journalism or sports management are the two fields of study Thornwell has his eye on.
Clemson head coach Brad Brownell and assistant Earl Grant remain in close contact.
"Me, coach Brownell and coach Grant, we have a good relationship," Thornwell said. "Probably, out of all the schools, since coach [Darrin] Horn has been fired [at South Carolina], they've probably been recruiting me the hardest.
"I probably have the best relationship with them, right there."
Thornwell, who offered no list of favorites, is unsure whether he'll ink in the first or second signing period.
"It'll be sometime before the season or after the season," he said.
