Edwards Close to the Top

As the number three running back in the nation, Jamaal Edwards is humble about his status on the national scene, but he does not want to let other running backs take his slot on their roster.

"Being that high is a real honor," says the 6-foot, 200 pounder, who is also visiting several different camps this summer. "My favorites are North Carolina, Florida State, and Miami. Virginia is also pretty high up there since I just visited them for their camp."

Edwards visited Charlottesville with teammates Martel Thatch and Demario Pressley, and they both came away impressed.

"I think they really liked it up there. Martel, I think, is going to commit soon, but he did not do it up there. It is basically them and North Carolina. Demario is going to take a while before he commits."

That was also the plan for Jamaal, but he is starting to become concerned with other players in the region.

"I want to commit early because of the position I plan. It is just that if a school gets a running back, you will be out of a school that you can choose from, and you have to jump to another school."

If Edwards has a senior season which eclipses his junior year stats of 2,378 yards and 31 touchdowns, few schools would turn him away. However, he could well "jump" before the season begins.
