Scott checks out '15 QB

On Wednesday, Clemson wide receivers coach Jeff Scott was in Jacksonville to see several prospects, including this quarterback with a Clemson offer.

QB DeAndre Johnson Profile

Scott and Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables stopped by First Coast High School. Among the prospects they saw was freshman quarterback DeAndre Johnson.

"I'm going to try to go the second week of June, to camp with them. I'm also going to go to South Carolina, Alabama, Florida State, Florida and Auburn," Johnson told CUTigers.

Last fall, Clemson was the first school to step forward with an offer. Since then, UCLA, UConn, USF have stepped forward. Ole Miss and Florida, Johnson said, are close to offering.

Who leads?

"I don't really have a favorite, but I like Clemson a lot, though."

Johnson noted several factors that standout about Tigers.

"I like the future that they have at Clemson. They're trying to build up with recruits from the state of Florida," he said. "They're trying to get back on top. It's a great coaching staff. They all seem pretty cool…I like the offensive scheme. It's a high scoring offense."

South Carolina, Florida State, California, Texas, Arkansas, Florida, Ole Miss, USF and UCF have also stopped by this spring.

As a freshman, Johnson completed 159 of 283 passes for 2,912 yards with 32 touchdowns. He also rushed for 212 yards and four scores.
