Smith offers Florida four-star

Clemson's newest assistant on the basketball staff, Steve Smith, extended an offer to this rising junior small forward from Orlando on Memorial Day.

Orlando Regional Christian's Adonys Henriquez was on the receiving end of the offer.

"I spoke to coach…he was telling me how they have a scholarship for me and he was going to continue to talk to and build a good relationship with me," Henriquez told CUTigers on Monday night.

Smith, a former assistant at Georgia Southern, is still waiting to be formally introduced as an assistant on the Tigers' staff. But he's already passed out a couple of offers. Over the weekend, Smith offered point guard Shelton Mitchell.

Henriquez has been on Smith's radar for close to a year now.

"He was just telling me it was a better move for him. Clemson's in a higher league with better talent," Henriquez said. "They're up and coming and in the process of getting players to make a run at a title."

What does the four-star know about Clemson?

"I know Clemson is in the ACC and Clemson always has good talent. They always do OK. They're not always the highest, highest team, but they're a team to get up to play for," Henriquez said.

Along with Clemson, Florida, USF, Murray State, FIU, UCF and Georgia Southern have offered. He offered no list of favorites.

As a sophomore, Henriquez averaged 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Scout.com ranks the 6-foot-5, 185-prospect as the No. 8 small forward in the class of 2014.
