Clemson 31 Duke 7
The Tigers raced out to a 31-0 lead before the lowly Blue Devils managed to salvage some dignity with a fourth quarter touchdown.
Cullen Harper completed 20 of 26 passes for 292 yards and a touchdown. His scoring pass was an 83-yard screen pass to C.J. Spiller, who finished with 108 yards receiving and 71 yards rushing. Spiller also scored once on the ground.
James Davis rushed for 43 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
DeAndre McDaniel and the Clemson defense held Duke to 168 yards of total offense and 10 first-downs.
With a 4-5 record heading into the game, Clemson needed to beat Duke and win the final two games on the schedule in order to become bowl eligible.
The Tigers also wanted to avoid a repeat of the 2004 trip to Durham, which Duke won, 16-13.
Before and After
Clemson's 31-7 win over Duke was the first of three-straight victories, to close the season, and become bowl eligible.
In the season finale against South Carolina, Swinney was carried off the field in Death Valley for the Tigers' 31-14 win.
In the Gator Bowl on New Year's Day, Clemson lost to Nebraska, 26-21.
