Clemson 31 Maryland 7
The offensive production was far from pretty but a solid performance by the defense and good special teams play delivered Dabo Swinney his third win of the 2010 campaign.
Da'Quan Bowers continued his All-American junior season with three more sacks in the 31-7 win over Maryland. The Clemson defense shut allowed just 44 yards rushing and intercepted three Danny O'Brien passes, one of which was returned 61 yards for a touchdown by Xavier Brewer.
Andre Ellington, who also scored on a 1-yard touchdown run, returned a kickoff 87 yards. The Tigers also added a 1-yard rushing score from Jamie Harper.
Kyle Parker completed 7 of 20 passes for 213 yards against Maryland.
After dropping the previous three games, Clemson needed a win in the worst way. On top of the losing streak, the Tigers lost in College Park to the Terps just a year earlier. Another loss to Maryland could have placed Swinney firmly on the hot seat.
Before and After
The win gave Clemson a 3-3 record on for the season and upped the conference mark to 1-2. The Tigers went on to finish the season with a 6-7 record and a Meineke Car Care Bowl loss to South Florida.
