WR Mike Williams Profile
The Clemson recruiting train continued to pick up steam Tuesday when four-star wide receiver Mike Williams pledged for Clemson over South Carolina.
"It was kind of a hard decision, but Clemson, they have three to five wide receivers on the field at the same time. They get the ball to the wide receivers," Williams said.
In addition to the Clemson and South Carolina offers, Williams also had full rides from Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
He knew right after camping at Clemson earlier this summer that it was the place he wanted to play college ball.
"It felt like home," Williams said. "I felt wanted and their offense, they move the ball real well."
Ranked as the No. 27 wide receiver in America by Scout.com, he joins 2013 wide receiver commitments Demarcus Robinson and Ryan Jenkins.
"Our relationship is good. They were telling us that we could be the next Sammy Watkins and Nuke Hopkins and all of them, by the time our junior and senior year comes. We got together and talked it out, and all of us made a decision," Williams said.
During his recruitment, Williams developed close relationships with Hopkins, Watkins and Martavis Bryant.
But that initial recognition by Clemson helped. The Tigers were first to offer, and that stuck with Williams throughout the recruiting process.
"They offered me at my spring game . Coach Jeff Scott offered me. I had a good game and he saw what he liked," he said.
When asked if he might change his decision before signing day, Williams was adamant about his decision.
"I ain't changing my mind."
As a junior, Williams hauled in 65 receptions for 1,269 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also completed 20 of 35 passes for 354 and three scores. On the defensive side of the ball, he registered 25 tackles.
As a sophomore, he hauled in 42 catches for over 700 yards and five touchdowns, and passed for 450 yards and three scores.
Clemson has now secured 16 verbal commitments for the 2013 recruiting class.
